A 68-year-old woman presents for vaginal hysterectomy for prolapse. She has been a heavy smoker, but has now stopped. She has kyphoscoliosis. Her arterial blood gas measurements are as follows:

pH 7.41
PaO2 7.8 kPa
PaCO2 5.3 kPa
Forced expiratory volume in 1 second 0.6 L
Forced vital capacity 0.9 L

Discuss her anaesthetic management.
