Plasmapheresis in severe sepsis and septic shock: a prospective, randomised, controlled trial.
Intensive Care Medicine 2002; 28: 1434-9

Major Finding

Plasmapheresis may be an important adjuvant to conventional treatment to reduce mortality in patients with severe sepsis or septic shock.

Point for discussion:

Are we happy to consider plasmaphereis as a potential alternative "magic bullet" therapy on the basis of theis trial, or are further RCTs needed?
