Created: 21/5/2007

Paper type

Retrospective cohort analysis

Kruger P, Fitzsimmons K, Cook D, Jones M, Nimmo G.
Statin therapy is associated with fewer deaths in patients with bacteraemia.
Intensive Care Medicine 2006; 32: 75-9

Major Finding

This is a retrospective study that demonstrates a survival benefit with continuing statin therapy in bacteraemic patients.

Point for discussion:

This is a hot topic generating a lot of interest in the critcal care literature. A large RCT of the use of statins in critically ill septic patients is surely warranted.
