Ronco et al. Dose of CVVH. Lancet 2000

Created: 22/5/2007

Paper type

Randomised controlled trial

Ronco C, et al.
Effects of different doses in continuous veno-venous haemofiltration on outcomes of acute renal failure: a prospective randomised trial.
Lancet 2000 Vol 356 (9223) 26-30

Major Finding

Increasing the rate of ultrafiltration improved survival significantly. For every 6 patients treated with high volume of ultrafiltration replacement (at least 35ml/kg/hr) one life will be saved compared to conventional replacement (20ml/kg/hr).

Point for discussion:

Are these CVVH filtration rates acheivable in practice?
